The trip, in short
A gentler, six-day Mt Kenya hike with extra acclimatization time, ascending via Chogoria and descending via Sirimon.
Six days on Mt Kenya buys something the shorter itineraries can’t: proper acclimatization. This route climbs the scenic Chogoria side at an easier pace, with an extra night built in around Lake Ellis and the Gorges Valley before pushing on to Minto’s Hut and Hall Tarns below the peak — time that meaningfully improves summit success rates and simply makes for a more comfortable climb.
The extra days also mean more time to actually look around: the Chogoria route’s forest, moorland, and glacial tarns are widely rated the most beautiful on the mountain, and a slower pace lets that scenery register rather than blur past. Summit morning targets Point Lenana at sunrise, after which the descent switches to the Sirimon route for a quicker, drier walk out — a well-balanced six days for hikers who’d rather arrive at altitude prepared than rushed.
What makes this one special
- Extra acclimatization day around Lake Ellis and Gorges Valley
- Hike the mountain's most scenic side, Chogoria
- Summit Point Lenana (4,985m) at sunrise
- Descend via the quicker, drier Sirimon route
- Higher summit-success pace than the standard 4-day climb
