The trip, in short
A five-day traverse of Mount Kenya, ascending via the Sirimon route to a sunrise summit of Point Lenana, then descending the scenic Chogoria route past the Gorges Valley.
A five-day traverse of Africa’s second-highest peak, ascending the gentler Sirimon route through moorland and giant lobelia before summiting Point Lenana at sunrise, then descending via the dramatically different Chogoria route — Kenya’s most scenic descent, past the Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson.
The traverse format means you see two completely different faces of the mountain rather than retracing your steps, with acclimatization built into the extra day compared to faster 4-day routes. Full guide, porter and cook support is included throughout; no technical climbing experience is required to reach Point Lenana.
What makes this one special
- Sunrise summit of Point Lenana (4,985m)
- Traverse route — ascend Sirimon, descend Chogoria
- Giant lobelia and groundsel moorland scenery
- Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson on the descent
- Full guide, porter and cook support
