The property
One of Kenya's earliest national park lodges, framed by Mount Kilimanjaro and the Chyulu Hills, with a waterhole out front and stone-built architecture that still carries its heritage after decades of refurbishment.
Kilaguni Serena has one of the best-known views in Kenyan safari lodging: a waterhole in the foreground, Mount Kilimanjaro and the Chyulu Hills filling the horizon behind it. It’s also one of the country’s earliest national park lodges, and the stone-built architecture still carries that heritage, even after successive refurbishments. Fifty-six rooms, including five suites up to the flagship Kilaguni Suite, all look out toward the same waterhole that’s kept the lodge’s reputation intact for decades.
Bush breakfasts and sundowner cocktails at Lion Rock are practically institutions here, and the stone-built bar with Chyulu Hills views is a strong contender for the best sundowner spot in Tsavo West. A garden sundeck pool, seasonal locally-sourced menus, private guided game drives, and outings to Mzima Springs to watch hippos underwater round out a genuinely complete lodge experience.
