Overview

The property

An iconic wildlife-viewing lodge in the heart of Aberdare National Park, The Ark is designed like Noah's Ark and overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick. Its elevated decks, lounges and ground-level photographic bunker provide exceptional opportunities to watch elephants, buffalo, rhinos and other forest wildlife from the comfort of the lodge.

The Ark is one of Kenya’s most distinctive safari lodges, located in the heart of Aberdare National Park in the cool, forested highlands of Nyeri County.

Designed to resemble Noah’s Ark, the lodge rises above a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attract elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and other wildlife. Rather than relying solely on traditional game drives, The Ark allows guests to sit quietly and watch wildlife coming to the waterhole throughout the day and into the night.

The lodge features cabin-style accommodation arranged across three main levels. Rooms are compact and comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms, electricity and windows facing the forest or waterhole. Accommodation includes Classic Single, King, Queen, Twin and Family Cabins.

The Ark’s four viewing levels provide multiple perspectives of the surrounding wildlife. A ground-level photographic bunker offers an especially close perspective for wildlife photography, while the elevated viewing decks and lounges provide comfortable places to observe animals around the waterhole.

Guests can enjoy breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, relax in the bar and lounge, browse the library or gift shop, and enjoy the unique experience of receiving a wildlife alert from the night guard when notable animals arrive at the waterhole.

Activities around the lodge include wildlife viewing, birdwatching, guided nature experiences, photography and game drives within Aberdare National Park. The surrounding forest is home to elephants, buffaloes, rhinos, bushbuck and other highland wildlife.

The Ark is particularly suited to wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, families and travellers looking for a distinctive Kenyan safari experience where the forest comes to you.
